2003 Peugeot 407 Elixir Concept

Peugeot will preview its upcoming 407 midsize sedan with a new styling concept at the IAA in Frankfurt next week. The 407 Elixir is a large grand tourer (length: 4734 mm / 186.4"; width: 1920 mm / 75.6"; height: 1400 mm / 55.1"; wheelbase: 2725 mm / 107.3") designed to seat four people in comfort. The body has a low-slung 'fluid' design that combines Peugeot's signature inclined windscreen with a glass roof. A wide "mouth" is surrounded by chrome-plated beading and a new variation of Peugeot's 'cats-eye' headlights. The rear design is enhanced by twin exhausts, LED-type rear lights and an opening rear window in a relatively upright tailgate.

The doors open to reveal an interior with no partition or rear parcel shelf, housing four identical, adjustable seats. The bright passenger compartment features impressive materials and light, high quality leather. The 407 Elixir has pre-tensioning seatbelts with a seatbelt-not-fastened indicator for each of the four seats. Passengers are protected by nine airbags, with a driver's knee-bag in the steering column protecting the driver's knees. The 407 Elixir is welcoming and user-friendly with 'dual zone' automatic air conditioning and satellite navigation displayed on a 7", 16/9 colour screen.

Power for the 407 Elixir is provided by an all-new, 6-cylinder 2720cc HDi diesel engine developed with Ford Motor Company. This engine features the latest-generation particulate emission filter, ensuring automatic regeneration without any mileage limitations. The maximum power developed by the DT17 type diesel engine is 148 kW (201 PS), with a maximum torque figure of 440 Nm. A 'Tiptronic' style sequential gearbox, with a gear lever allows either sequential manual or 100 % automatic operation. Elixir has dual wishbone suspension at the front and the latest generation multi-link system at the rear combined with a new Electronic Stability Program (ESP) to provide high-quality road holding and comfort, ensuring genuine driving pleasure.
