2001 Holden V2 Monaro

Holden
Sydney …GM's Australian subsidiary Holden lifted the covers off its new Monaro sports coupé at the Sydney International Motor Show today. As expected there are two "V2" Monaro variants, CV8 and CV6, offering powerful Generation III V8 and Supercharged V6 performance respectively. Although based on the current generation Commodore, the Monaro introduces several features that will later appear on the next generation VY model. Most obvious are changes to the Monaro grill, at once aligning the car with international Opel/Chevrolet design themes seen on the Holden Barina, and with the original 1968 HK Monaro.

The Monaro was fully designed and validated 'virtually', using Simultaneous Math Based Process (SMBP) technology, considerably reducing turn-around time and expense. Holden estimates that its $A60 million Monaro program investment — $A40 million for plant tooling and $A20 million for design and engineering — came in a significantly lower level than a more traditional approach would have required. The new coupé made the transition from concept to reality in 22 months, a "rapid acceleration" for Holden, but significantly longer than the 12-18 months targeted, and achieved, by GM operations in Europe and North America.
