Sharing a new platform with Hyundai's NF Sonata and TG Grandeur, the MG Magentis is longer, wider and higher than the previous GD model, with an extended 2,720 mm wheelbase, more spacious interior and larger trunk. While the new Sonata has grown into a large E-segment sedan to challenge the Toyota Camry, the new Magentis is engineered to give Kia a strong challenger for D-segment sales around the world. The new Magentis measures 4,735 mm long, 1,805 mm wide and 1,480 mm tall.
The new Magentis will feature a new generation of gasoline engines featuring VVT for improved power and efficiency. The current 2.0 L and 2.4 L 4-cylinder engines will be replaced by new θ (Theta) World Engines developed with DaimlerChrysler and Mitsubishi, while the 2.7 L δ (Delta) V6 is replaced by the new 2.7 L μ (Mu) V6 from the TG Grandeur. For North America and the general market, the new Optima will be available with the 2.4 L 4-cylinder and 2.7 L V6 gasoline engines, while the VM-based 2.0 L diesel already offered in the Cerato will be introduced in the European Magentis along with the new 2.0 L 4-cylinder and 2.7 L V6 gasoline engines.
As well as attracting customers with its stylish exterior and comfortable interior, the new Magentis will come with a generous level of active and passive safety equipment (varying by model), including ABS and ESP stability control, rear parking sensors, front, side and curtain airbags, and active (anti-whiplash) front seat head restraints.
